WINTER HVAC MAINTENANCE TIPS
It’s almost winter in our area and that means it’s time to switch on your furnace. Is yours ready for the challenges that winter brings? Here are six maintenance tips from the team at Joseph H. Roberts, Inc. to ensure you have warm and cozy home.
- Clean or Replace the Air Filter
If your air filter is dirty and hasn’t been replaced in a while, it’s going to make your furnace run harder than it should. This can drive up your energy bills without reason. Plan to replace your to do the same every monthly.
- Clean the Air Vents
Vacuum your home, including the air vents. This helps to prevent blockages and indoor air quality problems, while also helping to maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the home. If you are noticing quite a bit of buildup on your air vents, consider scheduling air duct cleaning.
- Add Some Insulation
While insulation may not feel like it’s part of your HVAC system, it plays a key role in the overall efficiency of your home. Check to ensure there is adequate insulation in the attic. If you aren’t sure how much insulation your home needs, check with one of our friendly HVAC technicians for expert advice.
- Check Your Thermostat
Make sure your thermostat is set for your winter comfort needs. In order to save energy, we recommend setting your thermostat to a cooler temperature at night and turning it up during the day when you’re home. If you don’t already have one, winter is an excellent time to upgrade to a programmable thermostat!
- Cover the Outdoor AC Unit
Consider covering your outdoor AC unit once you’re certain you won’t be using it again for the season. You can buy an affordable outdoor unit cover, and it will help protect the AC from ice and snow as well as debris buildup.
- Schedule an Inspection
If you didn’t have a heating system inspection done in the fall, now is the time to do it – we are currently running some wonderful promos. During a heating tune-up, an HVAC technician will come to your home and inspect your heating system to look for any signs of wear and tear that needs to be addressed. The inspection will also include cleaning and optimizing the furnace so it will run efficiently.
